(This is an old article I put together for The Ripple whilst they were running their “New Music Monday” event.)
My submission for New Music Monday is “The Dragster Wave“, by Ghinzu. This song should be instantly recognisable to anyone who has seen the fantastic film Taken.
Ghinzu are an alternative rock band from Belgium, though all lyrics are sung in English. They’ve become increasing popular within the European music scene in recent years, writing and recording the soundtack for the film Irina Palm, in addition to having their song “Blow” featured as the closing track for the film Ex Drummer.
Keen viewers of the brilliant Taken, the 2008 action-thriller starring Liam Neeson, will immediately recognise the pensive piano introduction of Ghinzu’s “The Dragster Wave“. The piano solo builds suspense before swelling and bursting into the epic guitar riff that carries the rest of the song. The song’s lyrics capture the frantic and emotional aspects of Taken, bringing the film to a perfect close as it plays out over the film’s credits.
In the immortal words of Liam Neeson…
“If you give this song a listen now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.”
